Harvesting, Fibre and Responsible Production

Cashmere is an exceptional material: rare and thermoregulating, it naturally adapts to body temperature. To guarantee optimal quality, we carefully select the finest, longest and whitest fibres. This high standard allows us to obtain cashmere of incomparable softness, with deep colours and exceptional durability. As a result, every Studio Cashmere8 collection is produced in limited quantities, making each piece unique, shaped by the encounters and bonds forged between our four founders.

Every spring, we set off on a trek across the high plateaus of Mongolia to meet the nomadic herders who raise goats of the breed Capra Hisca. This breed produces the most prestigious cashmere in the world. To survive the harsh winters, when temperatures drop as low as -40°C, these goats grow a precious undercoat beneath their fleece that protects them from the cold, wind and snow. When the warmer days return, this down sheds naturally. True to ancestral traditions more than 200 years old, the Mongolian herders carefully collect it by gentle combing, preserving the quality and integrity of the fibre.

 

Our collections come to life in our design studio in Provence, where each piece is imagined and created with passion. We explore the finest knitting techniques: jersey, garter stitch, moss stitch, English rib, jacquard, cable knit, intarsia, embroidery, tie-dye, brushed finishes… to offer a contemporary cashmere wardrobe in a variety of fits (fitted, regular, oversized) to suit every body shape. Once designed, our pieces are precisely knitted in our workshop located in a small town in Inner Mongolia, an autonomous region of China.

The ply of a cashmere determines its thickness and weight. The more plies a style has, the warmer and denser it is. However, this does not affect the quality of the fibre, which depends above all on its fineness and length. A light, breathable 2-ply cashmere can be worn all year round, while 4-ply pieces or more are ideal for winter. Some made-to-measure styles can reach up to 24-ply, offering ultimate comfort in the coldest temperatures.
